Porter had his 4 month appointment yesterday (a little late, I know- there was confusion about the date the first time I thought I had to be there).
He now weighs 15 lbs and is about 25 inches long. In the 50th and 60th percentile for height and weight! Such a big boy for being 6 weeks early!

About 2 weeks ago we gave him rice cereal for the first time using a spoon (I don't really understand why people would put it in a bottle really. It doesn't help him sleep better, I know for a fact, and using a spoon at least helps him learn how to eat!). He seems to like it a lot, and he's getting better at actually eating it instead of making a huge mess with it, haha. But the pediatrician said there's really no point in rice cereal, they don't eat it later in life, and it in fact doesn't help them sleep better. So honestly, i'm probably just going to stop with the cereal. It's a huge mess, his poop is WAY grosser now that he's been eating it, and after the doc said that, I kind of agree that it's pointless. He'll learn how to eat when I give him foods that are beneficial at 6 months. So even though feeding him is fun and exciting, I'll wait another month and a half until he can eat good, tasty food!

Last night we switched his bottle nipples to the second level (Dr. Brown's). He was getting really fussy and wouldn't want to eat after not very long, so I switched them and he's happy as can be now. He eats the whole bottle with no complaint now!

Here's some pics from his first attempt at "eating" :)

  1. You should look into baby led weening. I wish I had know about it when Aidric was that age. I want learn more about it and hopefully use that for our second child (whenever that may be). But I learned all about how rice cereal wasn't the best first food that everyone makes it out to be. After he was like nine months. haha

  2. We actually put rice in our daughter's milk so that it thickens the milk in her stomach to help with spitting up.
